Antarctic tractor

Definition

A modified farming tractors for use in Antarctica. The tractors run on tracks instead of wheels and use aviation fuel instead of diesel. The tractors need to be robust and reliable. They work 24 hours per day when unloading gear from supply ships but sit stationary, often buried under snow, for the 8-month winter period. The tractors pull sleds and living/research containers during traverses.
