Pig cells stained for viability
Living or viable pig islet cells are green when stained with acridine orange/propidium iodide (AO/PI) and viewed under a fluorescence microscope, while dead or non-viable islets are orange. This is an important quality control check before the pig cells are processed for transplanting.
