Measuring storm surges on sea-level gauges

Storm surges and tides are detected on sea-level gauges. This data was recorded by NIWA sea-level gauge at Moturiki Island (Mount Maunganui). It shows the very high storm-tide event of 23 January 2011, which also caused major flooding in Auckland.
