South Island brown teal/pāteke

The brown teal/pāteke (Anas chlorotis) is one of the rarest ducks in New Zealand. The South Island subspecies is now extinct, and the North Island subspecies is at risk – recovering, with the lowest numbers of any duck on the mainland.
