Threatened galaxiid fritter
The great Kiwi whitebait fritter is a seasonal treat made up of the juveniles of five different galaxiid species – two of five of these species appear in the 'endangered' and 'vulnerable' catagories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. The New Zealand Threat Classification System lists the shortjaw kōkopu as 'threatened - nationally vulnerable' and the other 4 as 'at risk - declining'.
