Shadows and intensity

If you look closely at this image, you can see how the intensity of the lantern’s shadow varies. Some parts of the shadow are darker and more distinct than others. Opaque objects (the metal parts of the lantern) form definite shadows. Translucent objects (the glass panes) form fuzzy shadows.
