Cinnabar

Cinnabar is made of toxic mercury sulfide. The striking red colour led to its use as a pigment in paint – called vermillion and for other decorative purposes. It is no longer used in this way due to the discovery of its toxicity. It is the most common ore for producing elemental mercury.
