Willow trees
The Waikato Raupatu River Trust would like to replace the islands’ willows with native trees. Trees like willows have been here since at least the 1850s. Native fish species like tuna (eels) have adapted to them, and in places, they help stop erosion of the river banks. This creates a conundrum for the Trust.
