A ruru (Ninox novae-zelandiae) wing specimen.

A ruru (Ninox novae-zelandiae ) wing specimen at Auckland Museum. The ruru, like many owl species, has specially adapted wing feathers with fringing on the edges to enable silent flight for hunting.
