AboutWelcome to the new-look Science Learning Hub!
This site is still in beta form. It’s a new, improved version that brings together contemporary web design with content from the sites you would have known as the Science Learning Hub and Biotechnology Learning Hub. Please bear with us as we continue to enhance functionality and add new content. We’d also love your feedback – use the handy ‘feedback’ tool in the bottom left of your screen or email us.
Introducing the Hub
We are a national project funded by the New Zealand Government to make examples of New Zealand science, technology and engineering more accessible to school teachers and students.
To do this, we use a range of media to tell the stories of New Zealand research and development. Wrap-around teacher resources demonstrate how these stories can be used as contexts for creating relevant, engaging classroom programmes.
Content is developed by teachers, teacher educators and multimedia experts working closely with New Zealand’s scientists, technologists and engineers.
The Science Learning Hub is an integral component of the New Zealand Government’s Science in Society Plan – A Nation of Curious Minds, He Whenua Hihiri I te Mahara.
The Hub features work from all of New Zealand’s universities and Crown Research Institutes and many other organisations. It represents a significant investment by government and New Zealand’s research and development sector in school science and technology education.
The project is managed by the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research, Te Kura Toi Tangata, Faculty of Education, The University of Waikato.
Introducing our social media
The Hub has an active presence across a number of social media platforms. Our aim is to interact with and support Hub users, facilitate closer connections between scientists and educators and promote other relevant resources, connections and conversations in the science/technology education and communication space.
Following us is also a great way to make connections between topical events and Hub resources and for keeping up to date with upcoming events and new content.
Pond is for New Zealand educators and learners. It provides a sophisticated search function and tools that make it easier to discover, review and share educational content and services. Come join us!
