Pollination – three-level reading guide

In this activity, students read about pollination using a three-level reading guide and use their ability to locate information to interpret the scientific information. Students apply their understanding of this information to its implications for the horticulture industry.

By the end of this activity, students should be able to:

  • locate information in the text

  • interpret what the author means

  • apply the information.

Harakeke has colourful flowers with lots of nectar to attract birds such as tūī. There is no pollen left on the dark anthers of these flowers.

Nature of science

In demonstrating their ability in the communicating in science aspect of nature of science, students have to engage with a range of scientific texts. Use of a three-level reading guide can support students to develop the capability to identify and use evidence and apply the scientific ideas to a socio-scientific issue.
