An environment epidemiologist

Professor Simon Kingham, of the University of Canterbury, discusses why he describes himself as an environment epidemiologist.

Transcript

PROFESSOR SIMON KINGHAM Epidemiology is the study of the health of populations. Medical people often look at individuals – they refer to the health of an individual. Epidemiology is the study of populations, so sometimes I refer to myself as an environment epidemiologist. It’s a bit of a mouthful, but it means someone who studies the health of populations in relation to the environment that they spend time in.
