YikeBike for Auckland commute

Jordan Morris, YikeBike owner, discusses how he uses his YikeBike for his Auckland commute. He explains that his YikeBike has replaced travelling by car or bus. His Auckland commute now consists of riding his YikeBike from home to the ferry and then from the ferry to his office. He explains how this gives him more flexibility and freedom and has avoided the need for a second car.

Jordan Morris:

I commute by ferry, and I had a gap at one end of the ferry where it was too far to walk, so I needed to take the car and park it in the marina and I needed to take a bus at the other end where traffic is terrible and the buses are intermittent. So I was looking for a solution.

First, I was thinking about an electric scooter. I couldn’t find anything – even looking internationally – which could handle the steep hills of Auckland and also the unreliable weather. I’d actually seen a YikeBike on the side of the road and didn’t know what I was looking at at the time. It turned out that it was exactly what I needed. It will pay for itself in a couple of years. I’m saving on a little bit of petrol on the way to the marina and bus fares are a thing of the past, and I can stay a one-car family.

It recharges really quickly, so I mean it’s always charged in the morning, and then I stick it under my desk at work for an hour and it’s charged there as well. It’s meant big savings and flexibility and freedom.
